When Barack Obama was elected President in 2008, more than anything, he was touted as the First Black President. Many Americans of all backgrounds and ethnicities were moved by the idea that there would finally be a black family in the White House. But author and scholar Clarence Lusane knew better. His new book, The Black History of the White House, is a comprehensive statement about the fact that black people have not only lived in the White House before the Obamas, but they actually built it, in more ways than one. He spoke with host Shirin Sadeghi.
